There's much to see here. Please, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about me. I look forward to working with you!
I am a successful tutor because I was fortunate enough to have been trained by the masters at Columbia University/Teacher’s College(TCRWP) and I graduated from New York University. My first third-grade classroom didn’t have any textbooks. I had to design my own curriculum from the get-go! What was a daunting task, proved to be a blessing in disguise. It gave me the opportunity to invent my own theme units rather than solely rely on textbooks.
I can easily design lessons that align with the Florida Standards and progress monitoring. I have a curriculum map for English and Mathematics and I will implement a program tailored to your individual child's needs. The new wave in education Is F.A.S.T which I believe will help us assess student thinking in a more diverse, holistic manner. However, the next year will bring many changes in our school system; so let me be there to guide you and your child as you navigate them.
During my tenure at Hunter College Elementary School in Manhattan, I published the Hunter Outreach and attained my second master's degree from NYU. I also hold an advanced master's degree from Hunter College in School Administration. I gave numerous lectures, and subsequently, became an expert on teaching English and mathematics. My forte is applying core skills and integrating them with science and social studies activities. Presently, I am an adjunct professor and have been given the wonderful opportunity of influencing our future generation of teachers! I instruct using practical methodology and have my pupils prepare lessons that they can apply in their own classrooms.
I try to impart skill-based knowledge combined with my own creative ideas into every aspect of my tutoring! My strategies are grounded in inquiry-based questioning which leads my students to dig deeper each and every day. I model that I am a lifelong learner by demonstrating my own participation in continuing education. I was a teacher in the Latino community for eleven years. Recently, I completed a 180 hour TEFL/TESOL course which allows me to teach foreign language learners from around the world. My philosophy on education has always been grounded in acceptance and global awareness.
In addition, I am an expert in assessment and test preparation. After our first session, I will conference with you and devise a clear plan of action that outlines exactly what techniques I will use to improve your child's schoolwork and confidence. My goal is to have both you and your child leave feeling a sense of relief because you know that I am going to take the reigns and solve your existing issues one step at a time!
In addition to teaching, I have experience in the field of publishing. I wrote the Classified Section for Dance Magazine and published an article on "Multicultural Education in the Classroom." As an author, I pride myself on the way in which I communicate with all forms of written and verbal expression. I will instruct your child on note-taking and research skills, and subsequently, improve their ability to unpack ideas in a clear, concise manner.
I tutor privately on topics that encompass handwriting, phonics, syntax, vocabulary, punctuation, subject and verb agreement/grammar, essay writing and reading comprehension. In mathematics, I stress computation as a foundation coupled with hands-on visual learning and technology integration. I am adept at recognizing areas of strength and weakness and steering individuals in the right direction. My main goal is ALSO improving your child's self-confidence, as well as, their academic skills. This is what makes my students thrive and stand out in today's society.
So, what do you say? Let's Achieve-It, Together!
I promise you will leave each session with a newfound sense of accomplishment and a smile on your face!
